Community Care to Hold Its 8th Annual Behavioral Health Recovery Conference

PITTSBURGH (April 18, 2007) – As a part of its ongoing commitment to support the creation of a recovery-oriented behavioral health delivery system, Community Care, a non-profit behavioral health managed care company, will be holding its 8th Annual Recovery Conference on May 1, 2007 at the Omni William Penn Hotel, Pittsburgh. The theme of this year’s conference is “RECOVERY imagine the possibilities…”. The conference presentations and workshops will share tools that people need to recover from mental health and addiction disorders, as well as ways that organizations providing treatment may support recovery efforts. The conference is free of charge to users of behavioral health services and their family members. The conference is also open to behavioral health professionals.

Community Care’s annual recovery-focused conference has become an important part of the work taking place to transform the behavioral heath delivery system to one that provides the hope and support needed to recover from a behavioral health disorder and to imagine the possibilities for life’s next chapter. Over the years, the conference has seen a growth in attendance as well as a deepened understanding of the significant opportunities tied to the recovery model for behavioral health.

Larry Davidson, PhD, Associate Professor and Director, Yale Program for Recovery and Community Health and Senior Clinical Officer and Mental Health Policy Director, Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, will deliver the keynote presentation entitled: Recovery and Changing the Systems of Care. Joan Erney, JD, Deputy Secretary, Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare, Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse will also speak. Ms. Erney will talk about the importance of peer support in recovery.

An April 30 evening reception has been planned to kick off the conference. During this event, Wes Sowers, MD, Medical Director, Allegheny County Department of Human Services, will facilitate a consumer – provider collaboration dialogue: Talking to Each Other: The Words We Use. This dialogue is designed to help all who are involved in the behavioral health delivery system recognize the importance of the language used and its impact on conveying respect and giving hope for recovery. Anyone attending the conference is also invited to this reception.

For more information about the conference, please contact Karen Neal at 412-454-8646 or visit the Community Care website, www.ccbh.com.
