Community Care Behavioral Health Organization Opens DuBois Office to
Support the North Central HealthChoices Program
PITTSBURGH (April 10, 2007) — Community Care Behavioral Health Organization, a nonprofit behavioral health managed care company, opened a DuBois office at 480 Jeffers Street on Monday, April 2, 2007. The 7,200 square foot office, which will house more than 25 staff, was established as a result of Community Care’s selection by the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare (DPW) to manage behavioral health services (mental health and substance abuse) for Medicaid members in 23 counties of North Central Pennsylvania.
Through this contract, Community Care will work in partnership with DPW’s Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (OMHSAS) to improve access to high quality services. The effective date of the contract, which is expected to produce $170 million in annual revenues, is January 1, 2007.
Community Care’s DuBois office will include staff members possessing an array of clinical and administrative backgrounds needed to effectively support the delivery of mental health and substance abuse services in the region. Included in the DuBois team will be Care Managers, individuals who coordinate timely access to appropriate behavioral health services, as well as the North Central HealthChoices Medical Director. In addition, the office staff will include a Community Relations representative, a Provider Relations representative, and an office manager. The DuBois location was selected to assure the active participation of Community Care staff in both community-based interagency meetings as well as a variety of DuBois area community events including health fairs. James Gavin, the President of Community Care, feels that creating an office in DuBois “provides Community Care an opportunity to reinforce our commitment to mental health and wellness in the area and to assure that there is an appropriate setting for such conversations to occur.”
The 23 counties included in the region served by the North Central HealthChoices contract include: Bradford, Cameron, Centre, Clarion, Clearfield, Columbia, Elk, Forest, Huntingdon, Jefferson, Juniata, McKean, Mifflin, Montour, Northumberland, Potter, Schuylkill, Snyder, Sullivan, Tioga, Union, Warren, and Wayne. Community Care currently contracts with 9 additional counties, including Allegheny, the largest in Western Pennsylvania. As of July 1, 2007, when Carbon, Monroe and Pike counties are added, the organization will be serving approximately 600,000 Medicaid eligible members in 35 of the state’s 67 counties.
