Doing well by doing good: Managed care can promote recovery

The world of behavioral health care is in flux. Budget cuts, new service models, and legislative challenges to health care reform implementation cloud an already complex model for financing and delivering behavioral health services. Individuals are concerned about their ability to receive the services and supports they need to recover.

Managed behavioral health care is typically associated with terms such as “utilization management” and “medically necessary services.” But at Community Care Behavioral Health Organization (Community Care) — a nonprofit, provider-owned company that manages mental health and substance abuse services for nearly 1.3 million members throughout rural and urban Pennsylvania — one word sums up our commitment to the individuals we serve and to our Board of Directors. That word is “recovery.”
