BHRS Autism Satisfaction Survey

Community Care developed the Behavioral Health Rehabilitation Services (BHRS) Autism Satisfaction Survey for Parents of Autistic Children. The survey was mailed to parents of children who were receiving BHR Services. Community Care contracted with The Myers Group to mail the survey and summarize the results. There were 598 surveys sent out and 242 completed surveys were returned. There were 21 parents that completed the survey on-line over the Internet. The total return rate was 40.5%. The Myers Group said this return rate was excellent.

The survey asked parents to rate their satisfaction with six different areas of service:

  • Evaluation/Re-evaluation Process
  • Interagency Service Planning Team (ISPT) Meeting and Treatment Planning Behavior Specialist Consultants (BSC)
  • Behavior Plan
  • Therapeutic Staff Support (TSS)
  • Overall Satisfaction with BHRS

Results

The overall results were very good.

On a 0 – 10 scale (0 is dissatisfied and 10 satisfied), over 7 out of 10 parents rated their overall satisfaction with BHRS as an 8, 9 or 10. Parents said these things were important to their satisfaction with BHRS:

  1. The BSC being there to intervene when their child needed.
  2. A good behavior plan which included the BSC making changes to the plan as needed.
  3. The BSC teaching the TSS how to put the child’s behavior plan into action.
  4. The BHRS staff following the treatment plan which was created by the Interagency Team.
  5. The TSS helps when a child is having a tantrum or breaking things.
  6. The TSS being there to intervene when their child needed.
  7. Experienced TSS staff, those knowing how to put into action the interventions in the treatment plan.

Though parents seemed satisfied with BHR Services, Community Care is working to improve satisfaction in the following areas:

  1. Having the doctor who did the evaluation help the parents figure out how the prescribed hours fit into the parent’s/child’s life.
  2. Having the providers encourage the family to invite other supportive persons to the ISPT.
  3. Having the BSC use charts, tables or graphs when sharing their child’s progress with parents.
  4. Parents having less difficulty getting BHRS started for their child.
