Preventive Health Program Update

Each year, Community Care wants you to know how the Preventive Health Program is doing.  Community Care has two Preventive Health Programs for HealthChoices members in Adams, Allegheny, Berks, Chester, and York Counties.

  • Depression – for adults ages 18 and over.
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) for parents and guardians of children up to age 12.

The program sends free newsletters to members with Depression and parents or guardians of children with ADHD.  These newsletters can help them learn more about Depression and ADHD and what they can do to help themselves or their children feel better.

Community Care looks at how the program is doing every year to see if it is working and helping members.  Many members took part in both the Depression program as well as the ADHD program in all of the counties.  A little less than 9 out of 10 members with Depression used the program.  And a little more than 9 out of 10 parents or guardians of members with ADHD used the program.

Most members that got the Depression newsletters said they were helpful.  Most parents and guardians that got the ADHD newsletters also said they were helpful.  Community Care is pleased that members are taking part in the program and finding it useful.  Your feedback on the Preventive Health Program is important to us.  Because so many parents and guardians had questions about medications used to treat ADHD, we created a Medication Fact Sheet.  This fact sheet has information about different medications used to treat ADHD.  It also includes the most common side effects of those medications.

In each issue of the depression newsletters, we include an insert that talks about depression in older people.  The inserts have information about symptoms, treatment and recovery.

We encourage you to use the Preventive Health Program.  Any member can call to get the newsletters.  If you would like more information about the programs or to get the newsletters, please call the toll-free Preventive Health Phone Line at 1-866-639-2943. You can also see the materials on Community Care’s website by clicking here.
