New Technologies in Behavioral Health Care

UPMC Health Plan Behavioral Health Services regularly reviews requests for coverage for new behavioral health care technologies and new applications of existing technologies. Requests can be initiated by a member or by a practitioner by contacting UPMC Health Plan Behavioral Health Services at 1-888-251-0083. All requests are forwarded to UPMC Health Plan Behavioral Health Services 's Medical Director. A committee appointed by the Medical Director will review the request and determine if a recommendation for coverage for the technology should be presented to the Health Plan. The Medical Director and committee will also ensure that certain criteria are met, such as the safety of the technology (as evaluated within the industry) and demonstrated benefits of the technology. Results of any recommendations are presented to UPMC Health Plan Behavioral Health Services 's quality oversight committee, prior to and following the review by the Health Plan.
