Coordination of Care for UPMC for Kids Members

UPMC Health Plan Behavioral Health Services believes that one of the main advantages that a system of managed behavioral health care has over an unmanaged system is enhanced continuity and coordination of care.

UPMC Health Plan Behavioral Health Services believes that the behavioral health service a member receives is most effective when there exists a continuous effort to maintain the highest level of continuity and coordination of care among all providers.

UPMC Health Plan Behavioral Health Services is committed to ensuring that this occurs:

• Across all aspects of the member's behavioral health services.
• Between the member's behavioral health and general medical care.
• In instances when a member's provider no longer participates in UPMC Health Plan Behavioral Health Services network.

UPMC Health Plan Behavioral Health Services works closely with UPMC Health Plan to ensure that care is coordinated by jointly managing members whose physical illness is impacted by behavioral health issues and whose behavioral health treatment is impacted by physical issues. Care is coordinated through an integrated delivery system that addresses the member holistically. Additionally, UPMC Health Plan Behavioral Health Services monitors the exchange of information between behavioral health providers and PCPs through random record reviews at practitioner and facility sites. Coordinating the member's care allows for better health outcomes as all of the providers engaged in treating the member are well informed about the member's condition.
