Depression Preventive Program

UPMC Health Plan Behavioral Health Services maintains a Preventive Behavioral Health Program for UPMC for Life members: Improving Treatment Compliance for Adults with Depression for ages 18 and over.

The program sends a series of three educational newsletters to members that will help them to learn more about depression and what they can do to help themselves feel better.  The newsletters are free and any member can request to receive them by calling the toll-free Preventive Behavioral Health Phone Line at 1-866-639-2943.  TTY users can call 1-877-877-3580.  Some members will receive a letter asking them if they want to participate in the program.  Members can always say no by calling the toll-free Preventive Behavioral Health Phone Line and asking not to receive the newsletters.

We include a postage paid mail-in survey with the third issue of the newsletter for each program and ask members to fill it out to tell us how helpful the newsletters were to them and their families.  Member and family feedback about the program is important to us.

In each issue of the depression newsletters, there is an insert that includes information specific to depression in older adults.  These inserts include information about the symptoms of depression, treatment for depression and recovery from depression.

We encourage providers to use the prevention materials when caring for our members.  We encourage UPMC for Life members to use the prevention programs.  Any member can call to receive the newsletters.  If you would like more information about the program or wish to receive the newsletters, please call the toll-free Preventive Behavioral Health Phone Line at 1-866-639-2943.  TTY users can call 1-877-877-3580.
