Recovery Institute Overview

"We envision a future when everyone with a mental illness will recover; a future when mental illnesses can be prevented or cured, a future when mental illnesses are detected early, and a future when everyone with a mental illness at any stage of life has access to effective treatment and supports - essentials for living, working, learning, and participating fully in the community."

--Vision Statement from the Final Report of the President's New Freedom Commission on Mental Health

Welcome to the Recovery Institute, a collaborative project developed by Community Care Behavioral Health Organization with assistance from Pat Deegan Ph.D. & Associates.

Our goal is to implement recovery-oriented services at all levels of the behavioral health service system in the 35 Pennsylvania counties in which Community Care assists with management of the Behavioral Health HealthChoices program.

The project involves on- and off-site consultation, training, mentoring, infrastructure support, and online information to help providers and other community systems transform attitudes and shift to a recovery orientation. Stakeholders participating in this work include counties, consumer organizations, providers, consumers and other family members.

People with psychiatric disabilities are involved at all levels of the transformation effort – as advisors, co-trainers, peer specialists, and consultants – and participate in all training and technical assistance events.
